Rangers vs. Senators Recap 4/8/2017

The Rangers lose to the Ottawa Senators 3-1 at the Bell center.

The Rangers are playing slow games, as the regular season winds down to one lone game. Two back to back losses for the Rangers. All eyes are on Henrik Lundqvist, because he’s allowed the most goals in the last two games. However, what’s the context of the game? Is Henrik to fully blame? No. From what I’m seeing on the television, I see a strong, focused goaltender. One who is making great save after great save. What I DON’T see, are his skaters performing to their ability. The defense allows him to be sprawled out, fighting tooth and nail to save the goals and their rebounds. The defense isn’t clearing the puck from the crease to help their goaltender. The forwards…sigh, well you can continue to get shots on goal, but are they going in? Nope. Thank you though, Zibanejad, for putting us on the boards. A perfect game to score in, as Zibanejad returns and is honored for his time in Ottawa. Don’t worry though, we haven’t been playing about a third of our lineup in both games. Nash, Stepan, Zuccarello, McDonagh… they’re all resting for the playoffs. These last regulation games matter, and they also don’t. They matter the most for Henrik Lundqvist. He’s been working hard to get into his playoff mode. Don’t be so quick to blame the goaltender when you see the score. Have faith in your Broadway King, and you’ll rarely be disappointed. Raanta starts tomorrow at home, against the Penguins. We’ll also find out the recipient of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award. One game left until the big show. Let’s go Rangers!
