The New York Rangers win tonight against Boston with a score of 2-1. Early in the game Boston had complete control and the Rangers looked like they were sleeping. If it wasn’t for the regular dose of Henrik Lundqvist Standing on his head, Boston could have easily taken a big lead. The second period was more back and forth, but Boston still had a huge edge and Hank continued to shut the door. In the third however the Rangers were able to gain some momentum and score the first goal, via a slap shot snipe by Buchnevich. A shot similar to his very first NHL goal against Tukka Rask. Shortly after that, Lindberg danced his way around a Boston defenseman, and tucked a beauty far side past Rask to make it 2-0. After some more back and forth hockey, Boston was able to get on the board. Pastrnak was able to dance around the Rangers’ defense to scoop the puck towards hank. Marchand poked it in to make it 2-1 with about 7 minutes to go.
Henrik Lundqvist (tonight is his 35th birthday) continues to put this team on his back and gives them a chance to win as he always has. This game puts Hank in the top 10 of all time goalie wins, tying Grant Fuhr, and ties the NHL record for most wins by a goalie in his first 12 season, with Martin Brodeur. Also, Brendan Smith made his Ranger debut tonight and although it was a bit of a rough start, understandable joining a new system and team, he picked up his game and had a solid finish. Smith is strong on his feet and knows how to protect his teammates, something the Rangers need of late. Buchnevich, who was in lineup with Zibanejad and Nash, comes in after his 2 goal 1 assist night for the wolf pack and scored a big jump starter goal for the Rangers. Lindberg also continues to get hotter this month with his nifty goal.
In conclusion, this game was able to be won by the Rangers because Henrik kept them in the game all night long. He’s allowed us to take the lead late in the game and close this one out.
Happy birthday Hank and congrats at top ten
