Rangers vs. Columbus Recap 2/26/2017

This Sunday afternoon at 5:00 pm, the Rangers faced the Columbus Blue Jackets for the fifth time. The Rangers struggled last night to control the game against the Devils, and their tiredness showed today.

The first two minutes of the game, Columbus had already found themselves a goal. The puck was shot from the point, and deflected 5-hole past Henrik. Nash had a great opportunity on a breakaway, though Bobrovsky saved the initial shot and the rebound. Later on, Stepan would enter the zone to pass to Vesey. Vesey then no-look passed to Nash, who put the puck in at the right circle to tie it 1-1. At 13:13 in the first, bad possession would allow Atkinson to bank one in past Henrik.

The second period started 2-1, and continued until 10:14. Henrik Lundqvist left his net to make a dangerous play. As he scrambled back to his net, the defense couldn’t get it together and Wennberg makes it 3-1.

For the third period, there were a lot of things the rangers needed to tweak. Their energy was already lacking, from playing back to back games. The rangers defense again broke down, which allowed Atkinson to walk in and score at 15:48. Are we catching on now to the trend? The. Defense. Needs. Work. 25 seconds left in the third, Anderson makes it 5-1. 3 tenths of a second left in the third. 19:59 on the clock. Jesper Fast makes it 5-2. It Doesn’t make a difference for a disinterested and tired rangers game. Next time blue shirts.

  1. Great write-up, Meghan! I thought too that they were fatigued, and also a bit disinterested. Maybe they wanted the game over quickly so they could catch the Oscars. 😉
